2013 SRT Viper GTS-R Heads to Le Mans

SRT Viper GTS-R Le Mans 2013It’s been a long time coming, but Viper is finally heading back to Le Mans.

The drivers at SRT have been getting ready for months now. They wanted to make sure the triumphant return to Le Mans with the SRT Viper GTS-R was something iconic. To make sure they brought only the best, the entire racing team even moved to France.

Le Mans will be starting this weekend, on the 22nd at 3pm in France (9am EDT). This will be the first time a factory-backed Viper has raced in the big race since it had its three straight class win in 1998-2000.

The Viper GTS-R will be participating in the GTE Professional class which will pit it up against the Chevrolet Corvette C6.6, Aston Martin Vantage GTE, Porsche 911 RSR and Ferrari 458 Italia GT2.

For those wanting to catch the race, Speed TV will be broadcasting the race live on Saturday. Just head over to their website to check it out. If you want more news about the SRT team, you can keep up with them on their blog at www.drivesrt.com/live.

‘Body and Soul’ Ad Campaign Launches to Highlight SRT Vehicles

SRT is beginning a new marketing campaigned aimed at letting drivers know that they are a major brand in the Chrysler family.

“The launch of this campaign marks a significant step forward for us and establishes the SRT brand’s legacy as a vital component of our company,” said SRT head Ralph Gilles.

The campaign, named “Body and Soul,” started the 8th of this month and will be running all summer long in 30, 60, and 90 second spots on TV.

On YouTube, the SRT team put together an extended version of the commercial.

The ads play up the legacy of the muscle car, really hitting the hit nostalgia notes for the golden age of the powerhouse vehicle.

So will this series pay off in the way SRT wants it too?  Jack Nerad, a market analyst at Kelley Blue Book, seems to think so.  He believes that the commercials may cause more of the enthusiasts to the SRT brand which could lead to better overall sales for Chrysler.

With the Viper under their wing, SRT is really making head-way into establishing themselves as one of the premier auto-makers in the US.  It makes sense that they would want to make sure people see them as a whole brand.

Special Edition Pearl White SRT Viper GTS To Be Auctioned

2013_srt_viper_f34_ns_52813_600The Sons of Italy Foundation is the charity arm of the Sons of Italy in America, also known as OSIA.  Their aim is to preserve Italian American culture and helping with the education of Italian Americans.  To that end, they just got a special one-of-a-kind SRT Viper GTS to auction off.

This is a one-off Viper GTS just for them.  It’s got a tri-coat pearl white paintjob and black vapor chrome wheels.  Inside, the colors of the Italian flag are on the seats and a GTS badge, also painted in the colors of the Italian flag, is right on the glovebox.

The Sons of Italy Foundation will be auctioning this unique and amazing vehicle at some unknown date in the future.  There’s no word yet even on what the worth is for the special Viper.  I can’t imagine that this thing is leaving the auction floor cheaply.

The fine folks at SRT even put together a YouTube video teasing the one-of-a-kind Viper:
