Jay Lenos Thanks Wound Soldier With a New Car

Untitled

Jay Leno is a car lover.  Since retiring from the late show, he has been inviting audiences into his vast garage to see his magnificent collection.  So when it comes time to think of something to give someone a gift, it is a sure bet it is going to be car related.

Leno wanted to find a way to express his love for the troops while visiting them in Afghanistan.  He wanted to do something incredibly special that would provide a moment away from the chaos of combat and life away from home.  He created a lottery for the injured soldiers to pick one from random and give him something special.

The name that won the lottery was Cpl. Ethan Leberge.  He was injured by a suicide bomb that left two other soldier dead and seriously injuring him.

Jay Leno invited Cpl. Leberge for a joyride in the new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat.  In a heartbreaking moment, Jay asks him what he thought of the ride and Leberge responded with “Yeah I wouldn’t mind having one of these” and Leno hands him the keys telling him that “It’s yours.”  A hug later Leno reminds him that “America loves you.  Don’t get any tickets.”

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Reviewed!

The new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is built with the expressed purpose of achieving one goal, absolute speed.  To that end, it is a marvelous success.  Not too many vehicles get to brag about the amount of horsepower this baby has.  Sadly, there is more to a car than just the power under the hood.  So while we all know the power, how is the rest?

Autocar has their overall impression of the Challenger SRT Hellcat.  They came to the conclusion that it a very odd vehicle to be on the market.  Like I said earlier, it is designed for the purpose of pushing what a muscle car is capable of.  But how does this play to the average buyer?

I think the answer is simple, it doesn’t.  This car is meant for a niche.  It is meant for the gearheads who don’t mind a car that burn through an entire tank of gas in 13 minutes.  That very statistic is the reason they are buying a Challenger SRT Hellcat.

For a practical car, it doesn’t make sense.  This really isn’t the daily drive to work kind of Challenger.  This is for the thrill of the road.  This is to shake off the stress of the day.  Even the reviewer acknowledges how impractical it is on the road (UK roads in this case).  However, for people looking for one mean machine, this is it.

Has the Viper Prototype at South Puget Sound Community College Been Saved?

SRT Viper

A while back, there was a bitter story about Chrysler asking a school to destroy their ’93 Viper prototype. Chrysler had loaned out the car but with the knowledge that the auto-maker still had ownership of it. That meant when the company decided the prototype needed to be destroyed, so be it. The school wanted to keep the Viper around to use as a teaching tool for the students. So the school struggled to convince Chrysler to let them keep the Viper around rather than sending it off to be destroyed.

Originally, it seemed that Chrysler was going to stay firm in keeping the school accountable for destroying the Viper. Now, it seems that they may have been convinced to let this one slide.

A graduate of the school, Storm Hudson, started “Operation Save the Vipers” to help keep the Viper prototype at the school. According to Motor Authority, his efforts may have paid off with Chrysler coming around to the idea of giving the Viper prototype to the school permanently.

While the final outcome still hasn’t been decided, it does appear that Chrysler is being receptive to the efforts being mounted to save a classic pre-production model of the viper.
