Many Americans feel a certain need when it comes to their vehicles and that is the need for speed. While some may shop around for comfort and for being able to hold more stuff, others simply want a vehicle that goes fast. American car makers became famous for their muscle cars and the power that they could push out. Since then, the European automakers have put together an impressive competitive list. Wall St Cheat Sheet put together a list of American cars that are speed-machines and the SRT Viper made the cut.

The engineers at SRT have been dutiful in producing the highest quality in the Viper. Back when Dodge was producing the Viper, the name became known for its speed. SRT did not want to disappoint the fans. They worked hard to bring back the Viper with a familiar look but with all necessary upgrades to keep it competitive in today’s world.

The Viper has a 8.4 liter V10 engine and is capable of 640 horsepower. That means the Viper can make zero to 60 in about 3 seconds. SRT has been making significant tweaks every moment they can to keep the Viper on the edge with the competition from Ford and Chevrolet. And, while Chrysler is owned by Fiat, an Italian company, it is still put together here in the States.

Change has been happening in the Chrysler world. The recent plan set forth by the company is causing major shake-ups in the traditional line-up. One of the biggest ones is that SRT will be folded into Dodge. This left the question of what was going to happen to the SRT made products such as the newly minted SRT Viper which was proudly wearing the new SRT badge. Well, for the time-being, the SRT badge will remain as a marker of high-quality on vehicles such as the Viper.

The badge has been a part of the Viper for only a short time. When the Viper was passed onto the engineers at SRT to give it a new high quality overall, SRT was all about putting out supped out vehicles from the entirety of the Chrysler line-up. The Viper was the first major vehicle to be made under the SRT name.

A few weeks ago, Chrysler group unveiled their five-year business plan. Under this plan, Chrysler discontinued numerous vehicles they felt were competing with each other. Another decision that was made was to put the Viper back under the Dodge moniker. Even with that, the Viper will still have the SRT badge.
