The Future of the Viper is Uncertain

Future Uncertain for Dodge Viper

One of the biggest news stories for Chrysler in the past few weeks has been the continuing negotiations with the UAW.  Car and Driver did some digging through the contract that is being proposed by Fiat-Chrysler and the United Auto Workers and may have found some troubling news for fans of the Dodge Viper.

What Car and Driver discovered in the contracts is that the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, which is where the Viper is currently being built, has not product build for 2017 and no future product planned.  That means that Dodge may be shelving the Viper again and it may be sometime before we see it again.

The Dodge Viper has been having a hard time finding itself since being brought back.  While initial sales were not the best, it did improve when Dodge put in a price drop.  The biggest problem with the momentum of the Viper is that other supercars are stealing its thunder.  It’s hard to look past the Hellcats when talking about performance and while Viper has been boasting about the capability of the ACR, it does seem to be a tad short.

It may be time to think about where the Viper is supposed to be now that it is back in the Dodge family.  The Hellcats are pushing the performance, so what is it that the Viper has to offer besides a cool look and nostalgia?

There is no confirmation on if this news is legit and it could change before the finalization of the agreement.  Maybe there is hope for the Viper yet.

New Chrysler 300 SRT Not Coming to US

IMG_9848

Some sad news for SRT fans, the new Chrysler 300 is not going to be coming state-side.

A recently refreshed Chrysler 300 SRT is not coming to US dealerships according to Fiat-Chrysler.  They’ve been working hard to get the SRT brand integrated into Dodge and have it be associated with a new level of performance.  If you take a look at the recent slew of SRT and Dodge products, such as the Viper TA, and the Challenger and Charger Hellcats, this seems to be the idea that Dodge is aiming for.

Sadly, the 300 SRT doesn’t meet what FCA wants associated with the brand in the states.  The demand for the 300 SRT has remained low in comparison to the other vehicles.  That means this new 300 SRT will only see the light of day in Japan, Indonesia, South Korea, and New Zealand.

It makes me wonder if FCA is holding off on the 300 SRT until the 300’s new facelift comes along in the next few years.  For the time being, Dodge and SRT seem to be concentrating their efforts on getting the Hellcats out to the US public where it is in high demand.  The next major release appears to be the Jeep Hellcat.  Time will tell if the 300 SRT comes to the US.

The 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise started off with a blast and has been more successful than ever.  More than 10,000 auto enthusiasts showed up to make sure the 2015 show was the most memorable yet and to show that they definitely want to see a return of the event in 2016.

One of the coolest competitions was the drag race.  Not only was it a chance for drivers to show off their cars and skill in an old-fashion race, but Dodge had a prize for the ultimate winner in the form of a new 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8.  The winner was Brandon Philips with his 1969 Dodge Super Bee.

The other major race event was Richard Rawling’s Gas Monkey Garage vs Roadkill’s “General Mayhem.”  The two competed in a drag race to see whose supped up car was the best.  Rawlings brought a customized 1967 Dodge Dart with a Hellcat powertrain inside.  Roadkill brought a 1968 Dodge Charger, also with a Hellcat powertrain.  The ultimate winner was Gas Monkey’s Dart making me wish to see a Dodge Dart Hellcat in the near future.

People who attended the show definitely got to see all kinds of celebrations of cars.  They were given the change to take rides in the new SRT Hellcats as well as new Dodge Vipers.  It is certainly a show to remember.
