The 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show is one of the most exciting shows to look forward to for car fans.  Every year, Mopar has rolled out several modified vehicles to show off to the car world at the SEMA show.  What is coming for this year’s show?  Mopar is being mean and has released some teaser images for what will be shown at SEMA 2016.

The SEMA 2016 show will be taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Center November 1st thru the 4th.  Fiat-Chrysler and Mopar will have a live webcast of their press event on November 1st when they lift the curtain on their SEMA 2016 Mopar vehicles.

The teases Mopar released hint at some killer modified vehicles they have planned for this year.  The teases show a Dodge Challenger, Chrysler Pacifica, a Jeep Wrangler, and a Ram Power Wagon.  The Dodge Challenger looks incredibly sinister with the black paint job and the cool line decals wrapping around the engine vent on the hood.  Mopar’s modifications on Wrangler is always fun and the sketch certainly shows a unique design for the roof and a traditional hood.  Being the 75th anniversary of Jeep, I’m sure Mopar has something special planned for the Wrangler to celebrate.  Lastly, the Pacifica may be the most interesting just to see what Mopar can do with such a popular new minivan.

Drag Fans Rejoice for the new Dodge Challenger Drag Pak from Mopar

Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak - SRT DealerNY - Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge

Mopar is a name that means performance.  For years they’ve been bringing their expertise to numerous vehicles and giving them a whole new life with various different packages and upgrades.  The engineers at Mopar have delivered on their next product, the Dodge Challenger Drag Pak.

As the name shows, this performance package is rooted in the drag racing.  The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) was brought in to help Mopar put together this new Challenger pack.

“Today, we write the next page in our performance playbook with the reveal of the production Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak,” said Pietro Gorlier, Mopar Brand Service’s President and CEO.  “A vehicle that offers, for the first time, a supercharged engine that provides our racers more options.”

Like Gorlier said, this new Challenger comes with the choice between the brands’ first-ever supercharged 354-cubic-inch Gen III Hemi or the naturally aspirated 426-cubic-inch Gen III Hemi engine.

“Our brand is committed to supporting Mopar drivers who compete at all levels.  In 2014, we debuted a new Dodge Dart NHRA Pro Stock car that won right out of the gate.  In 2015 our new Dodge Charger R/T NHRA Funny Car did the same.  Now, Mopar is supercharging our Sportsman racers.”

Those interested in the Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak will be able to place orders starting Jul 23rd.  The MSRP for the 426 Gen III Hemi is $99,426 and the 354 supercharged HEMI for $109,354.  To learn more about the package, visit Mopar’s website.

New Forged Wheels Bring Greater Performance to SRT Vehicles

srt-viper-gal-088

Speed is what people associate with SRT. Their vehicles are meant to produce the kinds of speed that cause a cartoonish reaction of a face melting. It comes as no surprise then that the engineers at SRT are finding new ways to accomplish the goal of making highers speeds possible. That is why SRT is introducing a new light weight high performance tire for their supercars.

The method of accomplishing this is by switching to forged wheels. These wheels are lighter in weight and are capable of greater performance. “A forged wheel is usually viewed as being a higher quality wheel,” said Illeana Dragnea, SRT Chassis Supervisor. “Forged wheels are seen as more of a performance wheel and for being stronger. On top of that, everybody knows they are significantly lighter.”

What is the difference between these two kinds of wheels? It is in how each is made. While both a forged wheel and a cast wheel are constructed by aluminum, forged wheels have a different method. They are made under higher pressures whilst the cast wheel is molded by putting melted aluminum in a mold. This makes the forged wheel denser in comparison.

This lighter wheel frees up the engineers with less weight to worry about. When it comes to getting the most speed out of any of the SRT vehicles, every pound shed is a win for performance.
