Sometimes it feels like auto news is just rumors about this and rumors about that. It is on days like today that it finally feels nice to talk about something concrete. In this case, it is regarding a new engine that Chrysler has been working on which they have now revealed.

The rumor was that a new engine was being developed by the nickname of ‘Hellcat.’ It was supposed to be the answer to allow the SRT team get a more powerful engine capable of competing with rival supercars. Turns out that the rumor is in fact true. Chrysler announced that the new engine is a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine.

The new V-8 engine will be put to use in both the SRT Dodge Charger and Challenger. The two SRT Dodge vehicles just got a new look and update that was shown off at the 2014 New York Auto Show with rumors of all-new versions coming in 2018.

What about the name of ‘Hellcat?” According to Automobile mag, who also covered the reveal of the new engine, the future of the Hellcat is still in flux. The spy photos of a Challenger with a hood scoop is not been designated Hellcat yet. He says that the name has been assigned to yet so there might still be a Hellcat surprise down the road.

2014 SRT Viper TA: Built for the Track

UntitledThat didn’t take long.  Right as the Viper is making its way out into the wild of the dealership showroom, not they’ve gone and unveiled a new model.  SRT showed off the new Viper at the New York Auto Show.  This new one specialized for being seen on the track and less so on the streets of Manhattan.

The 2014 Viper TA is a very limited edition with only 33 units planned to be on sale before the end of the year.  The changes being done are to improve the performance out on the track.  These changes include an upgrade to Brembo brakes, carbon fiber x-brace, and carbon front and rear spoilers.  The spoilers allow for an addition downforce of 300 pounds.

To get some extra oomph out of the Viper, the engine is a 8.4-liter V10 that can produce 640 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque.

The more obvious change is present right on the outside with the paint job being in a stand-out Crush Orange.  The tires are lightweight Pirelli P Zero Corsa.  The insides are decked out all in black with orange stitching matching the exterior color.
