A Look at the Painting of the 2014 SRT Viper

SRT Vipers are expensive cars.  With that obvious observation out of the way, the reason behind that is more than just the raw power included in the Viper supercar, it is also in the care it takes to make one.  USA Today has a fascinating look at the what it takes to get a SRT Viper painted at a small plant.

Imagine what it looks like when a car is on the assembly line.  We all have an expectation when we think of that.  The car’s body making it’s way down as workers and machines work on various bits and parts while sparks fly around.  A Viper’s production has a major difference from that.  When it comes time to put on the finishing paint job, an average vehicle gets put underneath the sprayers and comes out with a fresh coat.  With a Viper, the paint is applied by hand.

Vipers are special and are treated as such.  For this reason, it takes much longer for a Viper to get out of the plant and into the buyers hands.  The average paint time for a vehicle at a mass-production plant is 8 hours, but here, a Viper can take up to 120 hours to paint.

The attention to detail is incredible to see.  It is clear after reading this article that the care put into making sure the image of the Viper is top-of-the-line for those willing to invest is impressive.  One of the most difficult things for the painters, aside from the actual painting itself, is finding the right colors to make the Viper pop.  Not just any color will do, it has to be something that accentuates the curves and design.  That is one of the reasons why it only  has certain colors available to choose from.  At the Detroit Auto Show, SRT put out an all-new color for the 2014 SRT Viper, Stryker Green.

Enterprise Adds 2013 SRT Viper to Exotic Car Collection

UntitledWhenever I need to head out of time for whatever reasons, I always need to rent a car. I typically try to get something smaller and with a large tank of gas. Typically it’s just a nice coupe. I can’t imagine what it would be like to head up to the rental desk, ask for a car and be guided to a 2013 SRT Viper in the parking lot while the attendants asks me to sign my name on the clip-board.

Some lucky drivers in Southern California will be getting that absurd chance. Enterprise bought themselves a nice red Viper to go in their Exotic Car Collection. Decked out with a black leather interior, it’s one of an extremely-limited number that were built and sold. That means whoever gets the chance to drive away is not only renting a Viper, but also getting a one-of-a-kind Viper.

Needless to say, and un-surprisingly so, Chrysler is pretty happy that Enterprise added this supercar to their fleet. “We are thrilled that Enterprise is adding our SRT Viper to its Exotic Car Collection, allowing renters to make that special event even more special or enjoy their vacation in style in our hand-built-in-Detroit, flagship supercar, “ said Jim Sassorossi, Director of Fleet Sales for the Chrysler Group. “We know this will also be an excellent way for potential buyers to get a first-hand driving experience with our high-performance sports car.”

First SRT Viper Buyer Gets Special Celebration

UntitledThere was a huge reason to celebrate over at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit. The workers had the special occasion of delivering the first production SRT Viper to a lucky new driver. It was such a big deal that even Sergio Marchionne, Chrysler’s CEO, showed up.

Scott Thomas has the honor of being the first owner of the awesome new Viper. He was personally presented it by both Sergio Marchionne and the President of SRT Ralph Gilles.

The entire experience was a strange but amazing thing to Thomas who said about it, “Today’s surreal, I never thought I would have the opportunity to experience something quite like this. To be able to take the keys from the Chairman and CEO of Chrysler is incredible.”

For the rest of us unable to pay a personal visit to the plant where the Viper is being constructed, the New York Times has us covered. They recently put up an incredible peak at the process that goes into building the supercar.

The SRT Viper has a V-10 engine capable of 640 horsepower at 6,150 rpm. The standard Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual transmission helps get better response with closer gear ratios. The shift throws have a 12.5 percent reduction to help give the Viper top-speed performance.
