Get Ready for the Rebirth of the Dodge Demon!

The Dodge Demon is coming back from the dead.  This reanimated muscle car will be what puts the Hellcat to shame.

At the New York International Auto Show in April, Dodge will be showing off their latest and greatest muscle car to date; the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.  The challenger for the Demon’s return is to see if it can top the already massively impressive Dodge Challenger and Charger SRT Hellcat.  That’s quite the feat for Dodge to attempt.

“Most cars attempt to be everything to everybody.  Then there are the rare few that revel in a single objective, rending them totally irresistible to subculture,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Car Brands for FCA North American in a statement.  “The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is conceived, designed and engineered for a subculture of enthusiast who know that a tenth is a car and a half second is your reputation.”

In the upcoming days and weeks, Dodge will be teasing out glimpses of the Demon.  The first is n their new website dedicated to the Demon reveal, www.ifyouknowyouknow.com.  The first is a video called “Cage” which is a tease of things to come.

Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Causes Existential Crisis

Has a car ever given you an existential crisis?  One writer for Paste Magazine seems to have had his world turned topsy-turvy after spending some time in a 2016 Dodge Charger Hellcat.

John Brandon, writing for Paste, was given a chance to take the 2016 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat for a review drive.  The experience seems to be a life-changing one.  It all started with the choice of two keys.

For those in the know, the Charger SRT Hellcat comes with two different keys.  The red key is the one that gives the driver access to the true power in that Hemi engine.  Picking that red key, compared to the scene in the Matrix where Morpheus gives Neo the red pill, seems to be what caused the existential driving crisis.

The speeds that he reached allowed him to transcend his typical mind set, to launch him into a new dimension of thinking.  In this space, he transformed into the Star Child and realized the secrets to the meaning of life.  All kidding aside, it really was the transformation of driving a high-speed powered vehicle at speeds one typically doesn’t experience.

The review is light on details but the experience the writer had with the Charger Hellcat is an amusing one and definitely worth your time for the chuckle alone.  Check it out.

Turns Out the Viper ACR Set a Track Record!

In the world of Dodge and SRT, the conversation is centered around the Hellcats.  Can’t say I blame anyone, the love of something that fast and that powerful shouldn’t be something that goes away easily.  What isn’t being talked about is the Viper.  The Viper is going through a bit of a rough patch, but for fans of it, Road and Track features an article on the Viper ACR that should show there is still plenty to love about the supercar.

It turns out that Dodge is keeping mum on something pretty impressive about the ACR.  The writer for Road and Track found out about it at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.  Turns out that the Viper ACR has set a track record.  The previous record was held by the Porsche 918 Spyder, “a car seven times the Viper’s price.”

That’s insane to hear, and if you’re like the writer, it’s boggling to understand why Dodge is sitting on this.  Surely having the ability to advertise fastest lap for the Viper would be a major selling point to the buyers.  The team behind the Viper even had the ACR run the track twice and manage to set the record twice in a row.  So why the secrecy?

Turns out it is to make sure no one else can claim the record.  As the writer says, it’s to avoid having a hybrid hypercar beat the time.  Even if they do beat it, now they have to do it twice to really trounce the Viper ACR’s time.
