Turns Out the Viper ACR Set a Track Record!

In the world of Dodge and SRT, the conversation is centered around the Hellcats.  Can’t say I blame anyone, the love of something that fast and that powerful shouldn’t be something that goes away easily.  What isn’t being talked about is the Viper.  The Viper is going through a bit of a rough patch, but for fans of it, Road and Track features an article on the Viper ACR that should show there is still plenty to love about the supercar.

It turns out that Dodge is keeping mum on something pretty impressive about the ACR.  The writer for Road and Track found out about it at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.  Turns out that the Viper ACR has set a track record.  The previous record was held by the Porsche 918 Spyder, “a car seven times the Viper’s price.”

That’s insane to hear, and if you’re like the writer, it’s boggling to understand why Dodge is sitting on this.  Surely having the ability to advertise fastest lap for the Viper would be a major selling point to the buyers.  The team behind the Viper even had the ACR run the track twice and manage to set the record twice in a row.  So why the secrecy?

Turns out it is to make sure no one else can claim the record.  As the writer says, it’s to avoid having a hybrid hypercar beat the time.  Even if they do beat it, now they have to do it twice to really trounce the Viper ACR’s time.

Dodge Viper One of the Most Expensive Cars to Insure

Want a Dodge Viper?  It’s an obvious answer, I mean, who wouldn’t want that supercar?  It does come with some caveats sadly.  Turns out the Dodge Viper is one of the most expensive cars to insure according to Insure.com

The shock must’ve worn off by now.  The Dodge Viper, a supercar most well-known for its extreme speed has high insurance rates.  The other vehicles that ranked high on the list next to the Viper share what it was made for.  It’s Mercedes-Benz, Nissan GT-R, and Porsche.  It’s almost like supped-up cars cost more to insure.

On the flip-side, the Honda Odyssey is the least expensive, beating out the 2015 Jeep Wrangler which was the most-frugal previously.

“It’s no surprise that a family vehicle such as a minivan has taken over the top spot,” said Penny Gusner, consumer analyst for Insure.  “The Odyssey has a five-star crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and is relatively inexpensive to repair, and the driver carting around children tends to be more cautious than the person driving a muscle car.”

In response to the Viper being the highest to ensure, Gusner said, “the Viper is a car you buy because you love to drive fast.”

Truer words have never been spoken.  While it sucks that the Viper tops the list, it should be noted that when you look to drive something so powerful, it comes with a price attached.

Dodge Viper Leads a Trooper Of Stormtrooper Dodge Challengers in New Star Wars Ad

The-Force

Star Wars mania is in full effect as the brand new film gets ever closer.  To capitalize on the onslaught of all things Star Wars before Force Awakens comes out, Fiat-Chrysler has joined the #DodgeSide (get it!?) and is combining their vehicles with classic Star Wars imagery.

Each brand of FCA gets highlighted in the various ads, but the one that stands out the most is Dodge’s.  In reference to when Uber ran the special deal to get driven around in a custom Dodge made to look like a Stormtrooper, there is a legion of Dodge Challengers decked out in all white with a special-edition Viper at the forefront.  The ‘Imperial March’ plays as the cars slowly proceed.  It’s a great spectacle to see and made even better with the music playing, be careful however not to get it stuck in your head afterwards.

What makes the Viper even cooler is that it is done up to look not like the old favorite baddy Darth Vader, but new Sith Lord Kylo Ren.  While one could hope for a lightsaber exhaust, alas, that is not the case here.  Still, fans of Star Wars and Dodge have just found the best kind of intersection.  Enjoy!
