The Future of the Viper is Uncertain

Future Uncertain for Dodge Viper

One of the biggest news stories for Chrysler in the past few weeks has been the continuing negotiations with the UAW.  Car and Driver did some digging through the contract that is being proposed by Fiat-Chrysler and the United Auto Workers and may have found some troubling news for fans of the Dodge Viper.

What Car and Driver discovered in the contracts is that the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant, which is where the Viper is currently being built, has not product build for 2017 and no future product planned.  That means that Dodge may be shelving the Viper again and it may be sometime before we see it again.

The Dodge Viper has been having a hard time finding itself since being brought back.  While initial sales were not the best, it did improve when Dodge put in a price drop.  The biggest problem with the momentum of the Viper is that other supercars are stealing its thunder.  It’s hard to look past the Hellcats when talking about performance and while Viper has been boasting about the capability of the ACR, it does seem to be a tad short.

It may be time to think about where the Viper is supposed to be now that it is back in the Dodge family.  The Hellcats are pushing the performance, so what is it that the Viper has to offer besides a cool look and nostalgia?

There is no confirmation on if this news is legit and it could change before the finalization of the agreement.  Maybe there is hope for the Viper yet.

2016 Viper ACR: Fastest Street-Legal Viper Ever!

The Dodge Viper is back and this time it is really bringing the heat.  The 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is an evolution of the supercar.  It is the ultimate street-legal car drivers have been waiting for.

“The Viper has always been more of a street-legal race car than a track-capable streetcar, and the new 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is the fastest street-legal Viper track car ever,” raved Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of Dodge and SRT Brand.  “Our goal is to arm our enthusiast with the ultimate Viper track car to dominate road courses around the world.”

To accomplish this, the engineers assigned to the new Viper at SRT took a look at the previous Vipers that competed in the American Le Mans Series and IMSA United SportsCar Championship.  They decided to use this information to focus on three key areas to make the ACR the best Viper possible: aerodynamics, chassis, and tires.

The new ACR Extreme Aero Package has nearly 1 ton of peak downforce; the highest downforce of any production car.  The package includes an adjustable dual-element rear wing that is 62 percent larger than the one on the Viper TA 2.0.  This is specifically designed for airflow around the body of the Viper.

Dodge Offers Viper Fans More Paint Options for a Unique Look

More Viper Colors - SRTDealerNY - Bayside Chrysler Jeep Dodge

Dodge is giving Viper drivers more choices in the production of their favorite supercar.

With the 2016 model year, Dodge will now be offering matte-finish exterior paint for the Viper.  This means fans will now have more than 50 million different and unique looks to choose from.  That list is made up of more than 16,000 unique color options and more than 48,000 strip combos.  First prize goes to the person who uses a sprinkle of every color and stripe.

“The Anodized Carbon Viper was the first-ever use of this unique metallic matte exterior color by FCA and helped further the trend in automotive matte finish exteriors from the factory,” Tim Kuniskis, President and CEO of Dodge and SRT brands said.  “Now, by adding 8,000 new matte finish options to our high-end, hand-built hand-painted super car, we’re continuing at the forefront of the matte paint trend by offering so many variations, colors and even a metallic finish, all of which give each ‘1 of 1’ Viper an even more unique appearance.”

These new matte finish Vipers will be available for order in July.

Dodge is certainly taking steps to constantly make the Viper experience one of the most unique for drivers.  The amount of options and varieties in look means that no matter how many Vipers are on the road, it can still be a special little snowflake in the crowd.
