Dodge Introduces New 2016 Viper ACR

2016 Dodge Viper ACR

Dodge can’t help themselves when it comes to building cars with massive amounts of power and speed.  Just look at how much buzz the Hellcats generated when they put out the horsepower on those babies.  Not to be shown up at the game it started, the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR is now a thing and it is claiming to be the ‘Fastest Street-Viper.’

The Dodge Viper was always intended to be a supercar.  Now it just has to work a little harder to keep that title with other vehicles now competing against it.  That is where the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR comes in.

Tim Kuniskis, Dodge’s President and CEO, presented it during a tour of the FCA’s Conner Avenue Assembly Plant where the Viper is produced.  According to him, the Viper ACR is the fastest car they’ve made in the history of the company.

To pull off that incredible feat, they added new and improved aerodynamics to the Viper as well as used lightweight materials like thin carbon fiber and an aluminum body.  This helps the Viper ACR achieve a top speed of 177 mph. That is technically lower that the SRT Viper’s speed of 204 mph, but Dodge says that with the added downforce of the ACR’s aerodynamics, the ACR will be able to blaze past the other Vipers.

It is exciting to see the Dodge brand really taking their new mission statement of producing the top-level vehicles for the Fiat-Chrysler family.  The new Viper ACR seems to be making certain that Viper lovers don’t feel their supercar is being left behind while the muscle cars battle for supremacy.

SRT Viper Named “Collectible Car of the Future” by NAHC

SRT Viper

Last month, the SRT Viper was honored by the National Automotive History Collection (NAHC) as a “Collectible Car of the Future,” the third time the Viper has received this award.

The SRT Viper beat out 19 other vehicles from 2013 to receive the award. NAHC members voted on the vehicles based on perceived longevity, specifically which vehicle will receive more attention at the Woodward Dream Cruise in 25 years. The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day automotive event where car enthusiast take their classic cars for a cruise along Woodward Avenue through eight different host communities in Southeast Michigan. Additionally, there is live music, events for the kids, exhibitions, and more. In short, the Woodward Dream Cruise is the ultimate destination for classic cars, making it the perfect judge of a vehicle’s popularity and longevity.

Ralph Gilles, the President and CEO of SRT Brand and Motorsports, received the award from the President of the NAHC Board of Trustees at a recent ceremony. In response to the award, Gilles is quoted, “With fewer than 30,000 Vipers built since the nameplate’s launch in 1992, the Viper has earned its place as a unique, hand-built American exotic supercar. The National Automotive History Collection further recognizes the exclusivity and collectability of our flagship performance machine from Chrysler Group.”
