SRT Vipers Face-Off in Street Race!

SRT Viper

What would happen if you took 2 Vipers and put them to race against each other?  The answer is much less thrilling than it sounds.  It turns out that if you put the Viper Street Race Edition against a Viper TA, you get a very close call.

TRC (That Racing Channel) did just that and filmed it for their YouTube site.  It certainly seems like an interesting idea on paper; to see if the difference in performance between the two Vipers would translate to one completely out doing the other.  What happens instead is a very close race that amounts to a very close call between the two.

Both vehicles featured in the video are the 2014 models and both are equipped with a V10 engine.  To compare, the Carbon Edition has ported heads, exhaust, intake, tune, and pulley while the TA Viper has exhaust, intake, tune, and pulley.

SRT Dodge Challenger Hellcat Rumored to Debut This Weekend?

2014-challenger-dark-warehouse

Rumors can be a tenacious thing, even more when the rumor is something car enthusiast want to happen. Take the Hellcat Hemi rumor. There was previous speculation as to what SRT would be doing for their next generation Dodge Challenger. The belief is that it will have the new Hellcat Hemi and thus would be the SRT Dodge Challenger Hellcat. While nothing offical has been said either way, recent developments have brought the Hellcat rumor talk back.

Torque News thinks that Chrysler and SRT may have a surprise up their sleeve for the upcoming 2014 Spring Festival of LXs in California. The festival is a place where drivers of a Charger, 300, Dodge Magnum, or the Challenger get together and meet. Chrysler has not specifically said there will not be a major announcement made.

No news is, well, no news in this case. However, that level of silence for a major event could mean something. This is the right crowd for the SRT team to stand-up in front of to marvel at their latest creation. There would be no better place to get the momentum started for a new generation of Challenger.

As with all rumors, though, take this one with a grain of salt, something Torque News is quick to point out. This very rumor was happening around the time of the 2014 North American International Auto Show and, obviously, it was not true. Still, you never know.
Will we see the new SRT Dodge Challenger Hellcat? Only patience will tell.

SRT Viper Named “Collectible Car of the Future” by NAHC

SRT Viper

Last month, the SRT Viper was honored by the National Automotive History Collection (NAHC) as a “Collectible Car of the Future,” the third time the Viper has received this award.

The SRT Viper beat out 19 other vehicles from 2013 to receive the award. NAHC members voted on the vehicles based on perceived longevity, specifically which vehicle will receive more attention at the Woodward Dream Cruise in 25 years. The Woodward Dream Cruise is the world’s largest one-day automotive event where car enthusiast take their classic cars for a cruise along Woodward Avenue through eight different host communities in Southeast Michigan. Additionally, there is live music, events for the kids, exhibitions, and more. In short, the Woodward Dream Cruise is the ultimate destination for classic cars, making it the perfect judge of a vehicle’s popularity and longevity.

Ralph Gilles, the President and CEO of SRT Brand and Motorsports, received the award from the President of the NAHC Board of Trustees at a recent ceremony. In response to the award, Gilles is quoted, “With fewer than 30,000 Vipers built since the nameplate’s launch in 1992, the Viper has earned its place as a unique, hand-built American exotic supercar. The National Automotive History Collection further recognizes the exclusivity and collectability of our flagship performance machine from Chrysler Group.”
