New Book Goes Behind the Curtain of the SRT Viper

xViper-Book-Main.jpg.pagespeed.ic.WxDH0h5HL4

In this day, keeping something secret seems almost impossible. Not a day goes by where I don’t see one story featuring someone grabbing a spy picture of a new car secretly on the highway. That makes it harder for companies to keep things secret, and for car companies, it is a long time for a car’s life. There’s designs to pour over, prototypes to build, prototypes that don’t work as intended, rebuilding, and so on and so on. Years pass by before something is ready to be presented to the public and begin to build hype. That makes it very surprising to find out that Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of SRT, invited someone to document the entire process in building the new SRT Viper.

Gilles had author and photographer Maurice Liang on hand for the two years that it took to bring the Viper back to life. The entire experience has been put together and being sold in the book “SRT Viper – An American Supercar Returns.”

The books tell the story of what Liang went through as part of seeing the Viper come together. In the two years, he watched as the team tested the Electronic Stability Control in freezing weather. He later roasted and sweated as the Viper was tested in Death Valley.

None of those extremes diminished the once-in-a-lifetime experience. As Liang put it, “I’m not complaining. It was the experience of a lifetime.”

In order to bring Lian in, trust was necessary. Like I said before, in this day and age, it’s hard to not have work uncovered by the public. Giving someone such access to meetings, testings, and other such things seemed like a one-way ticket to leaking information about the Viper before the company was ready. That was a risk Gilles was willing to take in order to give fans the full look at what it takes to make a supercar.

The book is available for purchase and a leather-bound verison will be given to owners of the 2013 and 2014 SRT Viper.

SRT Adds New Colors and Rain Mode to the SRT Viper

2014-srt-viper-new-colors_100440296_m

The 2014 SRT Viper has been adding a lot of upgrades already.  This one, as far as major changes go, is quite minor in the long run and is meant more to appeal to aesthetic demand than to power.

The Viper is getting a series of additional color choices for aspiring racer to get.  The first of three is the Billet Silver which is based on the popular look for the SRT Viper GTS-R racer.  Next up is the GTS-R Blue, my personal favorite, and it matches the color that is on the roof of the Viper GTS-R.  Finishing off the list of new colors is the Anodized Carbon Special Edition.  That’s just a very long and special way of saying matte black.

Color isn’t the only thing being added to the SRT Viper, however.  A new traction control feature is being included in future models as well.  This new mode is being called “Rain Mode” and is designed for the the purpose of its namesake, having better control in the rain.  It is to help drivers handle the supercar under slippery road conditions in an effort to help protect drivers who fulfilled a fantasy of driving a Viper.

With this extra addition, it’s clear that SRT is making sure that the Viper is just as notorious for safety as it is for speed and look.

SRT Viper vs the Chevy Corvette Stingray!

2014-SRT-Viper-TA-front-three-quarters-in-motion-3

SRT represents the power enthusiasts in the drivers market. That is clear by looking at their catalog of the powerful machines they churn out including the Viper. The rebirth of an old favorite, the Viper is the antithesis of what drivers look for in rugged power. It’s a vehicle that many a driver had a series of complaints about but put them all aside when considering the sheer joy of being behind the wheel of such a monstrous car. The SRT Viper isn’t the only major player in high power speed, so is the Chevy Corvette Stingray and The Car Connection decided to make a comparison.

It’s a fairly even head-to-head with each vehicle taking a win where the other falls behind. The Viper boosts much more horsepower, 640 hp to be precise, versus the Stingray’s 455 hp. However, that does cause the price of the Viper to be greater than that of the Stingray’s.

Another aspect they look at is that the SRT Viper, especially the latest TA breed, is designed more for track performance than for a leisurely drive to work. That doesn’t mean that SRT didn’t make the new Viper more accommodating for the every-day consumer that doesn’t spend a weekend on a track. The interior cockpit for the driver is much more friendly with quality materials put into the design. Even with all that, its clear that the Viper is still about displaying that power and no amount of comfort can hold back feeling that tremendous power.

The article goes into much more detail but makes it clear that the Stingray is more for drivers looking for a super car with more refined ride but the Viper is for the person who doesn’t want to hide their SRT power.
